Do What You Love-Meet Nina Stramaglia
Tell me how and when everything started.
I have always loved photography throughout college I would always have my camera in hand but I also loved helping others so I decided to purse my formal education in psychology. After graduate school, I moved to the metro Atlanta area and began work as a foster care specialist. I love it but always knew that i wanted a large family.
After having my second child, I knew that I wanted to continue to grow my family. Reality set in that me and my husband could not live with margin and also pay an additional daycare payment. My husband made it very clear, we could not have another child unless we brought in more income. I took this as a challenge. I knew that I had to act, because the regret of not growing our family would be too heavy of a burden to bear.
I took a good look at myself and started brainstorming about ways I could bring in additional income. I decided that photography was my hobby and it was time to share it with others. Photography would give me flexibility and also allow me to share my gift with others. So in October 2018, I decided to take a leap of faith, head first into photography. It has been a blessing to see my hobby turn into a small business.
When did you first know that you wanted to be your own boss?
I knew that I wanted to be my own boss when I realized that time in a nonrenewable resource. I realized that if I wanted to create my ideal life than I would need to make steps toward owning my time, and being able to dictate when and how I use it.
What steps did you take to prepare for transitioning into full time entrepreneurship?
Right now I not a full time entrepreneur however I am hiring a business coach in the next few weeks in order to learn how to make my photography business a sustainable business.
What services/products does your business provide? What makes it unique?
I provide family, event, and birth photography. I love outdoor natural light photography. One aspect of my business that makes me unique is that I truly strive to ensure that when clients get their final images that they can see that their beauty comes from within. My goal is to allow others to see themselves the way God see's them, a beautiful creation with a purpose.
What are your best business or marketing tips?
My best business tip is to be authentic, no need to try to be someone else, you are perfect just the way you are.
What advice would you give someone considering a similar path?
My best advice to someone wanting to start in photography is, to be open, learn as much as you can and do not compare yourself to others. Photography is subjective, make sure that you love what you create and pretty soon others will take notice and start to appreciate it as well.
Are there any special projects you would like to work on?
I would love to create birth and breastfeeding artwork that can be displayed in public health centers in order to normalize birth and breastfeeding in various communities.
What do you do in your down time?
